Driver’s mate remanded into prison custody for stealing motorbike

A 24-year-old driver’s mate has been remanded into prison custody by the Nkawie circuit court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti region, for stealing a motorbike.

Akwasi Tawiah pleaded not guilty and will be brought back to the court on March 11, 2026.

Police Detective Chief Inspector Ntim Boadu, prosecuting told the court presided by Robert Addo that, the complainant in the case was a motor rider residing at Kukubuso, near Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua District, whiles the accused resided at Nkawie-Panin.

He said, on February 14, 2026, at about 02:00 hours, the complainant, who travelled from Kukubuso to Nkawie with the motorbike with registration number N-25-AW-6481, valued at GH¢16,000.00, detected a fault at a section of the road near the Nkawie police station.

Prosecution said, the complainant was repairing the vehicle, and the accused person approached to help him.

The Prosecution said they couldn’t repair the motorbike and left it at a nearby mechanic shop and on the next day, the complainant went to take it but didn’t find it.

Complainant then contacted the accused, who admitted having the vehicle in his possession but demanded GH¢15,000.00 before it would be released.

A report was made to the Nkawie police on February 23, 2026, and the accused person was arrested.

In his caution statement he admitted the offence and after further investigations he was charged and brought before the court.
