Driver sentenced for negligence

Hohoe, Aug 16, GNA - Charles Badasu, a commercial driver, has been sentenced to a fine of GHC200 by a Hohoe Circuit Court for negligently causing harm to Mariama Gidi, a 75 year-old farmer.

Badasu, pleaded guilty to careless and inconsiderate driving and negligently causing harm.

He would serve five months in prison on each charge to run concurrently in default of the fine.

Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mr Benjamin Dadzie, prosecuting, told the court, presided over by Mr Edward Apenkwa, that Badasu, who was driving an Opel Kadet taxi cab, with four passengers, were travelling from Hohoe to Golokwati when the incident occurred on February 18, this year.

He said Badasu knocked the victim down at a section of road near Gbi-Atabu, when she attempted to cross the road, injuring her in the process.

Mr Dadzie said the victim was rushed to the Hohoe Municipal Hospital, where she was treated and discharged.

He said a report was made to Police leading to the arrest and prosecution of Badasu.
