Driver steal boss’ GHc50,000

The ambulance driver of a medical doctor at 37 Military Hospital who diverted GHc50,000 his boss gave him to put into his bank account for him(boss)has found himself in trouble.

Patrick Asimah the suspect was put in an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Aboagye Tandoh and charged with stealing the money belonging to Dr. Chris Agbeka. But he denied the offence.

He has been granted bail in the sum of GHc40,000 with two sureties none of who must be his wife.

He is also to report to the police once a week while the case was adjourned to September 14 2015.

Narrating the facts leading to the arrest of the suspect, the prosecuting officer ASP A.A. Yirenkyi said the complainant is Chris Agbeka, a medical doctor at the 37 Military Hospital while the accused person is the doctor’s ambulance driver.

He said the complainant lives at Cantonments in Accra while the suspect lives at Newtown adding that about four years ago the complainant engaged the services of the accused as his ambulance driver.

According to him Asimah often ran errands for the doctor who had two bank accounts at Standard Chartered Bank and Access Bank.

The prosecuting officer narrated that in February 2015, the complainant detected that whenever he sent the driver to deposit money at the Standard Chartered Bank he would deposit a portion of it at the Access Bank and pocket the rest.

He indicated that on March 3 2015 the doctor again sent Asimah to deposit a check with a face value of GHc20,000 at the Standard Chartered Bank but the suspect ignored the directives and put the money into his pocket.

The prosecutor said the doctor later went to both banks and after checking his balance he realized that the accused person had stolen his cash amounting to GHc50,000 and he had him arrested.

The ASP stated that the suspect admitted the offence in his cautioned statement and was arraigned after investigations.
