Drivers' mate appear in court for defiling JSS girl

Takoradi, May 7, - GNA - Emmanuel Essien, a 20-year old drivers' mate on Friday appeared before Takoradi Circuit Court "A" for allegedly defiling a 12-year Junior Secondary School (JSS) pupil.

He pleaded not guilty and was remanded in Prison custody to re-appear on May 16 this year.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Kumah Mensah, said Charlotte Mensah, the JSS pupil, lived with her parents at Asakae near Takoradi where the accused also lived.

He said around 1900 Hrs. on January 18 2005, Charlotte was sent by the parents to buy kenkey at a spot at Asakae. Chief Inspector Mensah said the accused met her on the way and lured her into a room of a friend and had sexual intercourse with her. He said the accused refused to let her go home after the act and kept her in the room until the following day. Chief Inspector Mensah said the accused sternly warned Charlotte not to tell anybody what had gone on between the two of them or else she would die.

He said when Charlotte got home, the parents interrogated her and she disclosed what happened.

Chief Inspector Mensah said the matter was reported to the Police and the accused was arrested. He said the accused admitted the offence in his statement to the Police and after further investigations, he was charged with the offence.
