Two persons were on Tuesday remanded by an Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Mr Francis Obiri, for possessing narcotic drugs.
Ben Agumenu, and Mohammed Adams both drivers were said to have in their possession, 420 wraps of substances, seeds and quantities of dried leaves suspected to be narcotic drugs.
They both pleaded not guilty to the charges, but were however remanded by the court to reappear on November 25.
Ben was also charged for resisting arrest.
The prosecutor, Police Inspector Kwabena Adu told the court that the complainants are police personnel stationed at Nmai-Dzorn, while the accused persons reside at Adjiriganor.
He said on November 1, the Nmai-Dzorn police received information indicating that some groups of young men were trading in Indian hemp and terrorising residence at a spot near Sidalco Company Limited.
He said the complainants who were on patrol duty were detailed to move to the scene. They rushed to the scene which is a slum located within Adjiriganor and found about eight men including the accused persons trading and smoking substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
According to the prosecution, on sighting the police, the suspects took to their heels but Ben and Mohammed who were in possession of wraps of substances, dried leaves and seeds all suspected to be narcotic drugs in polythene bags were arrested.
Police Inspector Adu told the court that Ben resisted arrest and held the rifle of one of the police officers in an attempt to snatch it.
He said a struggle ensued between the police and Ben and in the process the rifle went off hitting his left palm.
Ben was over powered and arrested and he was rushed to Legon Government Hospital, where he was treated and discharged.
