ECG impostor arrested

Accra Nov. 1, GNA - A 33 year old electrician who posed as an official of the Electricity Company of Ghana and allegedly attempted to dupe a man who connected power illegally is in the grips of the police. Erasmus Kaku Ohene Attah, popularly known as Quansah, was on Tuesday arrested by the Teshie District Police together with his accomplice, Solomon Akama, unemployed, a former student of the Kumasi Technical Institute following a tip off.

The would be victim, Christian Seanefu, a corn miller and a resident of Teshie in a statement to the police, said Quansah introduced himself as a worker from ECG on official duty and attempted to disconnect his power on the grounds that he had illegally connected his line.

The alleged impostor was said to have asked Christian to settle the matter with 500,000 cedis, which he agreed to pay the next day. Mr Seanefu said, since he doubted the credibility of the impostor, he conducted an investigation which confirmed his doubt and decided to report the matter to the police.

The District Police Commander of Teshie ASP F.W.K Masiku said following Mr Seanefu's complaint, he detailed some personnel to arrest the culprit who turned up for the money with an accomplice.

The Accra East Regional Loss Control Unit Co-ordinator of the ECG, Dotse Hlorlewu in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said Quansah had been on the wanted list for three years and was happy the police had finally arrested him.
