Eight assorted weapons recovered, 24 arrested in a joint operation at Sampa

A special joint police-military intelligence-led operation has resulted in the recovery of eight assorted weapons and the arrest of 24 suspects in Sampa township.

A statement issued by the Ghana police Service on March 21, 2026, indicated that the operation was conducted in the early hours of March 21, 2026, by the Bono Regional Police Command, the 3rd Infantry Battalion (3B, N), and the Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI).

“The Bono Regional Police Command, the 3rd Infantry Battalion (3BN) and Bureau of National Intelligence (BNI) embarked on a special joint operation, which led to the recovery of eight (8) assorted weapons and the arrest of 24 suspects in Sampa Township,” the statement indicated.

“The security apparatus of the region, in its quest to get rid of weapons and criminal elements in the system, embarked on this tactical operation in the early hours of 21st March 2026 in Sampa Township,” the statement confirmed.

The statement further stated that “The exercise led to the recovery of the following exhibits; five (5) pump action guns, one (1) baikal gun, two (2) locally made guns, 790 rounds of AAA&BB Cartridges, one (1) pouch,

"Seven (7) pairs of black boots and desert boots, six whiskers, 21 machetes, four (4) bayonets, five (5) clubs, two (2) foreign military jackets, two (2) body amours-one without metal plate, one AK 47 ammunition, six (6) assorted keypad phones, 12 assorted smart phones, one official stamp marked "Nana Samgba Gyafla Il President Sampa Traditional council, Eight (8) assorted motorbikes, one pair of pliers, one chisel, six (6) knives, one torchlight, one Ripshaw and a quantity of talisman.”

The suspects were between the ages of 13 and 78, and the police confirmed that two of them were arrested for breaching curfew regulations.

According to the statement, all suspects are currently in custody assisting investigations, while preparations are underway to arraign them before the court.

The Bono Police Command therefore urged the public to support ongoing security efforts by providing credible information that could help identify and arrest individuals possessing illegal weapons.

The authorities stated that operations like this will continue as part of efforts to ensure safety and maintain law and order across the region.
