Ho, Dec. 13, GNA - The Volta Regional Police Command has impounded eight Togo registered vehicles believed to be used for cross border crime.

The exercise is to keep the eastern corridor safe during and after the Christmas festivity.

Briefing the media in Ho after the exercise on Wednesday, Assistant Commissioner of Police Bernard Dery, said all the seized vehicles had their 90 days temporal importation grace periods expired. He said the vehicles had been in the country illegally between six and one year with expired documents. Mr Dery, who is the Volta Regional Police Commander, said seven of the vehicles belong to Ghanaian residents in the country and one to a Togolese.

"It shows an indication that they have been imported permanently but owners have refused to pay duties". He said the vehicles would be referred to the Custom, Excise and Preventive (CEPS) for further action.
