Electrician in court for possessing hemp

Accra, June 13, GNA - An electrician, who was arrested allegedly with Indian hemp weighing 455.0 grams, on Monday appeared before the Greater Accra Regional Tribunal.

Samuel Botwe, alias Kokoo, who was charged with possession of narcotic drug without lawful authority, pleaded not guilty.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) E.Y. Frimpong told the court that the Police arrested the accused in his house on September 27, 2010 for dealing in dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

He said the Mamprobi District Police had information that the accused was dealing in the drug.

During interrogation, the accused stated that the substance belonged to one Yaw who hid it in his room without his knowledge.

He claimed Yaw visited him and left the substance in the room and he did not know until the day of his arrest.

DSP Frimpong said the exhibit was forwarded to the Police Crime Laboratory and the report indicated that the test proved positive.
