An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced Jerry Quainoo, an electrician, to 18-years imprisonment in hard labour for robbery.
The case went through its full trial until the judgement was given.
Chief Inspector Martin Acheampong told the court presided over by Francis Obiri that, the complainant in the case was a chief commercial officer at Africa World Airlines.
He said for some time now, series of complaints of thefts had been received from motorist plying the GIMPA-Legon road.
The prosecution said as a result of this the night patrol team was put on alert to track down the perpetrator(s).
Chief Inspector Acheampong said on November 25, last year around 21:45 hours, the complainant was driving a Renault salon car with registration number GS 1497-10 from Fiesta Royal Hotel towards Kisseman.
He said the complainant on reaching a section of the road between Legon and GIMPA T-junction, whilst in traffic; the convict emerged from a nearby bush and forcibly opened the side door.
He said the convict threatened the complainant with a big hammer and eventually picked her black handbag on the passenger’s seat which contained GH?960.00 and three Ghanaian passports with various visas.
Other items included Zenith, Fidelity, Ecobank and Barclays credit cards, four cheque books and personal documents.
The prosecution said on November 28, the same year, around 2100 hours, a police patrol team on duty at Kisseman had information about the convict.
“The Police quickly proceeded to the area and arrested the convict,” he added.
On December 9, the same year, an identification parade was conducted by the Tesano Police and the convict was identified by the complainant.
During investigation a search was conducted in convict’s place of abode and complainant identified one British airways and Virgin Nigeria passport covers.
