Eleven TDC taskforce members granted bail

Tema, Nov. 17, GNA - Eleven members of the Tema Development Corporation (TDC) taskforce, who assaulted two journalists of the Daily Graphic while they were on official duties, were on Monday granted a total of GH¢ 24,200 bail by the Tema Circuit court 'A'. The taskforce members were granted GH¢ 2,200 bail with one surety each on their second appearance in court.

The 11 accused persons are Ex W01 Joseph Owusu, Stephen Eshun, Alfred Nana Ampah, Francis Adjei, Charles Douga and Isaac Duncan. The rest are Razaak Mamudu, Abraham Adamu, Samuel Osei, Andrew Ackon and Roy Mireku

Mrs Lauren Owusu, presiding over the court, adjourned the case to December 11 to allow the two sides decide on settling the case out of court upon the request of the Tema Traditional Council (TTC). The 11 pleaded not guilty to assault and causing damage to a digital camera, spectacle and shirts of Mr Mark Anthony Vinorkor, a Reporter and Mr Samuel Tei Adano, Cameraman. Police Chief Inspector Adolphus Otchere, prosecuting said on October 22 this year at about 1315 hours, the two journalists were on their way to cover a programme and took photographs of the taskforce demolishing wooden kiosks and structures written on them "remove" at Tema Community four.

He said the taskforce prevented Mr Adano, who insisted he was performing his official duty from taking the photographs and in the process they assaulted him and damaged his nosier digital camera valued at GH¢850, shirt, spectacle and spare battery. Mr Vinorkor, who went to verify what was happening, also had his share of the assault. The two lodged a complaint with the Tema Community Four Police and were issued with a medical form to attend hospital. 17 Nov 08
