Tema, June 08, GNA - Mabel Otchere Boakye, a judicial service employee, on Thursday stood trail at the Tema Circuit Court 'A' for allegedly defrauding a woman of 21 million cedis under the pretext of renting her a house.

Mabel, who pleaded not guilty to the charge of fraud, was granted a bail in the sum of 20 million cedis with one surety to reappear on June 29.

Chief Inspector Sarah Acquah said a friend introduced Madam Rachael Ogu, the complainant, to the accused in March and she said she could rent her an apartment at Baatsona where she, Mabel, resides. Madam Ogu agreed to rent the apartment for two years at a cost of 900,000 cedis a month and made a part payment of 21 million cedis to the accused.

Later when Madam Ogu informed Mabel of her ejection from the house she was staying at Accra but the accused demanded an additional one years advance payment before she would allow her to occupy the house. Chief Inspector Acquah said Madam Ogu asked for the refund of the 21 million cedis when she told her she would not rent the house to her as agreed upon.

Mabel refused to refund the money and Madam Ogu reported the case to the police.
