Four suspected armed robbers have been arrested by the Enchi police for robbing two gold buyers, Dennis Hilary and John Hoyeah, of cash and gold worth several thousands of Ghana Cedis at Abokyia, in the Aowin District of the Western Region.
According to the police, Emmanuel Essuman, 25, the leader of the gang, and gold buyer, conspired with Abudu, Bashiru, 35, Okada rider, Kofi Combart, 35, a Gruma from Garu-Tempane, and Sulley Bawah, 32, to rob Dennis and Hoyeah of GHC14,660 and gold valued at GHC1,025.
Meanwhile, the police have retrieved two pump action guns, 33 live AA and BB cartridges, one double-barreled locally manufactured pistol, and one SB shot gun, from separate locations.
The Enchi Police Commander, Superintendent Raymond Erzuah, confirmed the story to The Ghanaian Times.
He said Dennis and John Hoyeah, both gold buyers at Tarkwa, staying at Abokyia, near Enchi, reported to the police that they hired a Haojin motorcycle with the registration number M-5434-16, being operated by the ‘galamseyer’ and Okada operator, Abudu to go and buy gold.
Sup Erzuah indicated that Essuman, also a gold buyer, and a friend of Dennis, conspired with Abudu and Combart and Bawah, to rob the complainant of his cash and gold.
The police, Supt Erzuah mentioned, arrested the first two suspects, Essuman and Abudu, while the remaining were arrested at dawn on Wednesday.
“The four suspected armed robbers are in police custody at Enchi while investigations continue,” the police commander told The Ghanaian Times.
