Sekondi, Sept. 3, GNA - A District Magistrate's court in Sekondi on Friday remanded an ex-convict until September 5, for sentence for theft. Isaac Essel, who completed an 18-month prison sentence this year for stealing pleaded guilty to stealing two sheep at Apowa near Takoradi.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Joe Hedidor told the court that following a tip-off two policemen on duty at the Apremdo barrier on August 1 arrested the accused with a sheep hidden in a wooden box. An informant told Sergeants I. Y. Ahmadiya and Issah T. Allanda that the stolen sheep had been concealed in a wooden box and put on a bus.

Inspector Hedidor said as soon an Urvan bus with registration number WR 1022 P arrived at the barrier and was checked, Essel claimed ownership of the box and said it contained cassava.

When it was opened, a live sheep was found in it.

At the same court, Francis Dovi, a 25-year-old driver's mate was granted five million cedis bail for assaulting a second year student of the Mpohor Senior Secondary School.

He pleaded not guilty and would re-appear on September 15. Prosecuting Inspector Hedidor said on June 26 at about 1800 hours, the accused who lived in the same neighbourhood with the victim at Mpohor invited her to accompany him to his house for a parcel that her uncle had sent through him (Dovi).

He said on reaching the accused person's house, he demanded to have sex with the victim but she refused.

Inspector Hedidor said this infuriated Dovi, who subjected the victim to severe beatings.
