Mr. Francisco Lavingo, the expatriate Manager of Fabi Timbers Company at Sepaase in the Atwima-Mponua District, who allegedly set ablaze the personal belongings of one of his employees is facing the law.
He is helping the police in investigations and shall soon face possible prosecution.
Mr. Lavingo, reportedly aided by some of the company’s security men, on June 7, forcibly opened the door to the room of the victim, threw out his belongings and set fire to them.
The victim, Mr. Mohammed Hugu had been engaged as a heavy duty vehicle mechanic with a monthly salary of GH¢250.00 and accommodation.
About two weeks ago, he together with 99 other workers of the company were asked to go home without their unpaid overtime allowances and bonuses.
Mr. Hugu dissatisfied with what he saw as an unfair treatment went to the General Manager in his office on June 4, to demand that he was paid his outstanding allowances but he was driven out.
Three days after, Mr. Lavingo accompanied by the security men allegedly committed the offence, whilst the victim was out in town.
Police Chief Superintendent Benjamin Worgui, the Abuakwa Commander, confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency saying the General Manager has also reported a case of assault against Mr. Hugu.
He said the matter would be put before court as soon as the police finished with their investigations, he added.**
