Fake Estate Agent remanded into prison custody

Kumasi, May 16, GNA - A Kumasi Circuit Court on Monday remanded Isaac Adu-Asabre, 30, who together with a brother now on the run, duped 83 people of 898.7 million cedis under the pretext of offering them residential accommodation.

His plea was not taken and would re-appear on May 30. Adu-Asabre is facing charges of conspiracy and defrauding by false pretence.

Police Chief Inspector Hajia Victoria A. Baduana told the court that all the complainants approached the accused and the two brothers, who inherited the estates of their late mother, for rooms to rent. She left two storey buildings and anytime people looking for rent accommodation went to them, they would take them to Patase in Kumasi where the buildings are located and are undergoing renovation. There, they would collect money ranging from five to 30 million cedis with the promise that on completion of the renovation works the rooms would be given to them.

Police Chief Inspector Baduana said one of the complainants, Mr Robert Incoom, who later realised that works being carried out on the buildings had stalled became suspicious and demanded a refund of his money.

The two went into hiding but Adu-Asabre was arrested at Patase. His brother, Collins Sarkodie, is on the run.
