ADENTA, (GAR) Aug. 6, GNA - Mr. Robert Owusu Addo, who defrauded three unsuspected persons to the tune of GH¢ 13,700 million was on Tuesday, remanded in Police custody at the Adenta District Police Headquarters to re-appear for hearing at the Madina Magistrates' Court Grade One on Aug. 14, 2008.
Speaking to GNA, the District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mr. Yaw Tettegah said Mr. Robert Owusu Addo, alias "Solar" and sometimes called Robert Owusu Adjei, claimed to be working with the National Security at the Osu Castle and had taken advantage of unsuspecting persons and for years had been defrauding people of large sums of money with the intention of purchasing ceased vehicles at the Castle for them.
Mr. Owusu sometimes claimed he worked with the CID or BNI Headquarters in Accra, leading to the belief of unsuspecting customers that he was a reliable person to transact business with. He said on July 31, 2008, a complainant, one Madam Allswell Mussey and the brother Nana Mussey, who lived in Adenta approached Mr. Robert Owusu Addo to assist them purchase some vehicles in March 2008. Mr. Owusu Addo, then took them to the Custom Excise and Preventive Services (CEPS) State Warehouse located at the REDCO premises in Madina and showed them some ceased cars and the victims selected two cars.
The fraudster therefore, demanded part payment of GH¢ 6,000 for two cars and the amount was paid. He later took them to the Tema Harbour where he showed them other types of cars he claimed were ceased by the Castle security and the victims again expressed interest in some of the cars at the port and demanded more payment which totalled GH¢ 8,300. Later when it came to his turn to deliver the vehicles, Mr. Owusu Addo went into hiding.
The two victims managed to locate the culprit's hideout in West Adenta and arrested him and handed him over to the Adenta Police. 6 Aug 08
