Juaso (Ash), Sept 7, GNA -- A blood-stained underpants of a six-year-old girl who was defiled, led to the early detection of her ordeal and the subsequent arrest of her defiler.

The Juaso circuit court, presided over by Mr Jacob Boon, has sentenced a 25-year-old farm labourer resident in Agogo, Kwadwo Issaka, who committed the act, to 10 years' imprisonment in hard labour. Issaka pleaded not guilty to the offence but was convicted because he failed to prove his innocence after a couple of adjournments of the case.

Police Chief Inspector Joseph Damanka, presenting the facts of the case, told the court that on May 10 this year at about 1600 hours, the girl's father returned from the farm and noticed bloodstains on the panty of his daughter.

The court heard that when the father confronted her, she told him that Issaka had had sex with her in his room after sending her to buy him some onions.

The prosecutor said a medical report authorised by the police on the girl after tests at the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital confirmed that she had been defiled.
