Cape Coast, July 18, GNA - A Circuit Court in Cape Coast, presided by Mr Samuel Asare-Nyarko, on Monday remanded a farmer, Kofi Nyame, 40 into police custody for allegedly defiling a 15-year-old girl at Abrem Berase in Central Region.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and is to be re-arraigned on Monday, July 25.

Prosecuting, Sergeant Charles Effah told the court that the victim lived with her mother at Abrem Berase in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality until last year when the wife of the accused, one Afua Hawa, went for her to live with her and her husband, the accused, at Abrem Saaman.

Sergeant Effah said after living with them for some time, the accused proposed love to the girl and promised to give her 20 Ghana cedis if she agreed to have sexual intercourse with him but she refused.

However, in March this year, the accused succeeded in luring the girl into his bed and had sexual intercourse with her on four different nights resulting in a pregnancy which was detected by her colleague who informed the victim’s biological mother about it, he added.

The Prosecutor said the girl’s mother then invited the accused to her house at Berase to inquire if he was responsible for her daughter’s pregnancy but the accused denied.

On Monday, July 4, the case was reported to the Police and a police medical report form was issued to the victim and, after a check-up, it was detected that the victim was 16 weeks and five days pregnant.

According to the Prosecutor, the accused was arrested and he persistently denied the offence only to admit it later at the police station.
