Farmer, 60, charged with defilement

Asamankese (E/R), Sept. 15, GNA- A 60-year-old farmer, Clifford Anim Tawiah, charged with defiling a 14-year-old girl, has been placed in prison custody by the Asamankese Circuit Court. Tawiah pleaded not guilty and he is to re-appear on September 29.

Police Detective Inspector Kofi Akuamoah Boateng told the court that the girl, a pupil of the Kade Catholic Primary School, visited her parents at Asikam, near Kyebi sometime in May last year. On May 24, Tawiah, who was preparing fufu, invited the girl to assist him pound the fufu, which she obliged and later asked her to send the food to his room.

The Prosecutor said immediately she entered the room, Tawiah rushed into the room, pushed the girl down and forcibly had sex with her. He said while she was shouting for help, a co-tenant rushed to the house of the girl and informed her parents who rushed to the house, found the door locked and forced it open.

The Prosecutor said the accused, on seeing them, however, jumped through the window but he was chased and arrested. The girl, who could not walk, was carried to the roadside and rushed to the Kyebi Government Hospital where she was treated and discharged.
