Farmer before court for killing wife, brother-in-law

Sekondi, Nov. 8, GNA - Jonas Sabuner, a 48-year-old farmer at Miawani, in the Wassa West District on Monday appeared before a Magistrate's court in Sekondi for allegedly murdering his wife and brother-in-law. His plea was not taken and was remanded to re-appear on November 18. Police Chief Inspector Joe Hedidor told the court that Sabuner married Efua Atta, a 50-year-old trader at Kwesimintsim about three years ago but the couple did not have any children.

He said in September this year, the accused killed a fowl belonging to Atta without her consent and this resulted in a misunderstanding between the two.

Chief Inspector Hedidor said the accused became furious and threw away Atta's personal belongings and threatened to kill her and later kill himself.

He said Atta also threatened to divorce him and reported the matter to the accused person's brother who summoned relatives of Atta including her brother, Kwesi Akroma, for settlement of the issue.

Chief Inspector Hedidor said on October 2 this year, the relatives assembled at Miawani and amicably settled the matter.

He said while the relatives were leaving the village, the accused followed them with a loaded single barrel gun threatening to kill his 46-year-old brother, Stephen Sabuner for not taking sides with him during the settlement.

Chief Inspector Hedidor said the accused thereafter pointed the gun at his wife Atta rather, shooting her and her brother Kwesi Akroma dead instantly.

He the accused abandoned the gun, took to his heels and went into hiding at nearby Nkwanta village.

Chief Inspector Hedidor said upon a tip off, he was arrested and handed over to the Police at Nsuaem.
