Cape Coast, June 8, GNA - Yaw Abayena, farmer, 40, of Pomadze near Anomabu, was on Wednesday bonded to be of good behaviour for 12 months by a circuit court in Cape Coast for failing to take part in communal labour. Abayena who pleaded guilty, will go to prison for four months in default. The court also ordered him to pay 350 thousand cedis to his local Unit Committee to be used for development projects in the area. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Daniel Darko told the court presided over by Mr Mustapha Logoh, that in April this year, the people of Pomadze instituted a weekly communal labour to generate funds for an electrification project. He said it was agreed that anyone who failed to take part, was to be fined 10,000.00 cedis each week. The prosecution said seven of such exercises were organised from April 6 to May 22, but Abayena, failed to take part in all on grounds that he had never benefited from any of the development project in the area. According to the prosecution, Abayena was fined a total of 70,000.00 cedis but he failed to pay.
