A Tarkwa circuit court on Wednesday granted bail in the sum of GH¢12,000.00 to a farmer for unlawfully causing harm to one Abdul Alhassan Razak.
Francis Asare pleaded not guilty to the charge of causing harm and will re-appear before the court on August 26.
Prosecuting, Police Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court, presided over by Mr. Justice Alex Obeng Asante that the complainant is a native of Tamale in the Northern region, who had settled at Kpong in the Eastern region to work whilst the accused lives at Appiah Sumang, a village near Akyempim in the Western region.
He said when the complainant lost his job at Kpong; he came to mile 10, near Koduamkrom village to visit his brother.
Chief Inspector Amponsah said on February 6, this year, the complainant lost his way home and was relaxing under a palm tree, when the accused person, together with one Osumanu, who were on their way to the farm, saw the complainant and asked him what he was doing in the neighbourhood.
The Prosecutor said the accused forcibly seized the complainant’s mobile phone and money, and Osumanu asked him to follow them to the town, which he refused.
Chief Inspector Amponsah said the accused suddenly inflicted cutlass wounds on the complainant and bit his mouth, after which the two (Francis and Osumanu) took to their heels and left the accused in a pool of blood.
The police later had information about the injured person and rushed to the scene and transported him to the hospital at Ateiku for treatment.
According to Chief Inspector Amponsah, Asare went into hiding after the act until he was involved in a different case and was brought to the Tarkwa circuit court where he was arrested.
