A twenty eight year old farmer, Kwodzo Atta, charged with assaulting a petty trader at Ebubonko, near the Cape Coast Polytechnic, has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢ 3500.00 with one surety by a Cape Coast Magistrate’s Court.
Atta pleaded not guilty to assault and would be re-arraigned Monday August 8. The prosecutor, Police Inspector Charles Effah, told the court presided over by Ms. Mercy Addai Kotei, that on Sunday May 25, at about 0900hrs, the complainant, Ekua Akyeraba with a group of people was returning from a Keep Fit exercise and spotted Atta on the street with his mobile phone in hand.
Inspector Effah said Atta took a couple of pictures with his phone of the crowd but Akyeraba took offence to the act and confronted Atta, resulting in a heated argument between them.
He told the court that, after the Keep Fit exercise, Akyeraba left the house to take a stroll but Atta, who was behind her without her knowledge, allegedly attacked and severely assaulted her with a big stone till she became unconscious.
She was rushed to the hospital by a passerby and discharged later after treatment, whilst Atta was arrested.
