Yaw Domfe, a 40-year-old farmer has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment in hard labour by a Tarkwa circuit court for defiling an eight year-old girl at Wasa Hemang in the Western region.

He was convicted on his own plea.

Prosecuting Chief Inspector Florence Tawiah told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that, the victim lives with her mother at Wasa Hemang in the same vicinity with the convict.

According to the Prosecutor, Domfe once befriended the complainant, who is the victim’s mother, but the relationship came to an end after the convict returned from prison after serving a two year jail term.

She said on September 25, this year, around 2100 hours, the complainant left the victim asleep in her room and went to Wasa Hemang Township to sell oranges.

Inspector Tawiah said the convict took advantage of that and quickly sneaked into the room and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her, after which he told her not to tell anyone about the incident.

The Prosecutor said on September 26, the complainant detected that, the victim was bleeding from the vagina, and when the victim was questioned, she mentioned the convict as the one who had sex with her on September 25.

Inspector Tawiah said a report was made to the Wasa Akropong police and the medical report received from the Wasa Akropong government hospital revealed that the victim had been sexually assaulted.

She said Domfe was arrested and after investigation, charged with the offense of defilement.
