Asamankese, May 09, GNA - Kwabena Ansah, a farmer, aged 22, has been sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, in hard labour, by the Asamankese Circuit Court for stealing GHC 25 belonging to a trader. Ansah, who faced two counts of unlawful entry and stealing, pleaded guilty to both counts and was accordingly convicted on his plea by the judge, Mr Emmanuel Siameh.
Detective Police Chief Inspector Robert Bediako, prosecuting, told the court that on April 23 at about 09.00 hours, the convict who lived at Asuokaw new Asamankese, unlawfully entered the room of Mama Tsegah, a cloth seller, at Asamankese Amanfrom and stole her GHC 25. He said on that day the complainant went and sold her cocoa beans and received GHC 25 from the sale. She placed the money on the table, locked her door with a padlock and went to town to have her corn milled. The prosecutor said the complainant returned home within 30 minutes to discover that the padlock had been broken. When she entered the room, she noticed that the money on the table was nowhere to be found.
Ansah, using a table, managed to climb into the next room, and when the woman opened that room, she found him hiding there. The complainant gripped Ansah firmly and shouted for help, which soon came and the intruder was arrested. When he was searched, the amount was found in his pocket and was therefore arrested and handed over to the police.
