The Juaso Circuit Court has sentenced Usman Shaibu, a 25 year-old farmer to 30 years imprisonment in hard labour, for killing a security man and robbing his former employers of cash and mobile phones.

The incident occurred at Ananekrom near Agogo, in the Asante Akim North District of the Ashanti Region.

The convict, a former employee of Jiang Su Jian Da Construction, a Chinese Road Construction Company, in the company of two other accomplices now on the run, shot and killed Kwaku Aniah, the security man on duty on May 5 at 0100 when the robbery took place.

Three Chinese workers, San Xi Fu, Han Xian and Gu Bao Rong, who also sustained gunshots wounds during the attack, were rushed to Agogo Presbyterian Hospital but were later referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi for further treatment.

They made away with two mobile phones, 800 Yuan, 40 dollars and GH? 1,900.00.

He pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit crime and robbery, but the court found him culpable after the trial.

The convict implicated Yaw Agyekum and Agyemang Prempeh, Chief and Kyidomhene of Ananekrom.

The court presided over by Mr Fredrick Tetteh, however, acquitted and discharged the two when it found out that his grounds for drawing them into the case was false.

Police Detective Inspector Thomas Obour, prosecuting said Shaibu was a security man at the camp of, a Chinese company constructing the road between Agogo and Maame Krobo.

He was however dismissed for inefficiency about a year ago, and this ostensibly angered him and together with the runaway accomplices, they conspired to commit the crime.

The convict who went into hiding together with his accomplices after the incident returned to the community two days later and was arrested, but the two others managed to escape.

The Police retrieved a brown purse containing 40 Yuan from the room of the convict and it was later identified by Han Xian as his.
