Farmer jailed for stealing Palm fruits

Nkrumah Yaw, described by the Police as ‘a stubborn farmer,’ who stole palm fruits estimated at GHC800 has been sentenced to two years imprisonment in hard labour.

The Akim Swedru Circuit Court, presided over by Mr. Emmanuel Brew, ordered the refund of the cost the palm fruits to the owner, Mr. Kwame Appiah, The prosecution stated that the complainant had a palm plantation at Akim Akokoase and lived with the convict in the same town.

He said sometime in November, 2012 the complainant visited his palm plantation and detected that thieves had harvested one hundred bunches of the fruits. Mr. Appiah, the prosecution said, conducted his own investigations and found Yaw responsible the theft.

He, therefore, made a report to the police who traced Yaw to no avail, until 25th February, this year when Yaw committed a similar offence and was arrested by the Police.

The prosecution stated that when Mr. Appiah heard of the arrest of the convict, he followed up to the Police Station and identified the convict as the culprit in his stealing case.
