Eric Kyei, a farmer and Kwabena Asamoah, a mason, who conspired to steal 10 bunches of plantain, valued at GH?45 have been sentenced to two years imprisonment each in hard labour by Akim Swedru Circuit Court.
Kyei, 29 and Asamoah, 35, pleaded guilty to conspiracy and stealing the property of Opanin Kwasi Nyarko, complainant.
Briefing the court, Police Inspector Kingsley Antwi told the trial judge Mr Yaw Atta Sampong that the complainant detected rampant theft of his plantains from his farm at Awisa Apaaso in the Birim South District and therefore decided to lay ambush for the culprits.
He said at about 1730 on March 26, Opanin Nyarko saw Kyei and Asamoah with fertiliser sack approaching the farm, where they harvested and loaded the plantain.
Inspector Antwi said the complainant then raised the alarm and managed to arrest Asamoah and handed him over to the police.**
