Farmer on remand for killing a colleague

Ajumako (C/R), Feb. 9, GNA – Kwesi Gwurah, 60, who shot dead Mr John Kofi God, 40, from Isaadze in the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District, has been remanded in prison custody by the Ajumako District Court.

Mr Gwurah who is set to reappear on March 28, shot the deceased in the head at a close range and died shortly on arrival at Breman Asikuma Catholic Hospital.

Police Inspector Charles H. Armoh told the Ajumako District Magistrate Court presided over by Madam Patience Ablorh that the deceased and the accused are farmers who share a common farm boundary and that they had not been speaking terms for sometime because Gwurah allegedly stole a quantity of boards from the deceased farm and was later made to pay for the cost.

He said on February 6, the deceased and his family went to farm to uproot cassava for gari processing and he then left for another farm to uproot yams to be consumed at home and whiles there Gwurah appeared and shot him in the head.

Inspector Armoh said the accused then dismantled the gun and separately hid the parts in the farm.

He said the wife of the deceased and his children after sometime went to collect the yams from the farm and surprisingly found him in a pool of blood they called for assistance and Mr Yaw Mensah, Chairman of Isaadze Town Committee and others assisted to convey the deceased to hospital.

The District Police Commander, DSP Mr Seth Tay, told the Ghana News Agency that even though Gwurah lied to the Police their active surveillance and intensive investigations and a report by the wife of the accused confirmed the act and the accused was arrested on February 7.

He said Gwurah then accompanied the Police to the farm to locate and retrieve the dismantled and hidden locally manufactured single barrel short gun.

DSP Mr Tay advised the general public especially hunters to be extra careful and that no offender would go scot-free, adding that he and his men are on red alert to protect life and property and to ensure absolute peace in the district.
