Ejisu (Ash), Dec 7, GNA- A 54 year old farmer from Adadientem near Ejisu in the Ashanti region, was on Thursday remanded by the Ejisu Magistrates' court for allegedly beating her wife to death. Iddrisu Musah, who was said to have attempted committing suicide after the act, would re-appear before the court within two weeks. His plea was not taken.

Prosecuting, Inspector Jacob Asumani, told the court that on December 4 this year, Iddrisu returned from Ejisu around 23:30 hours and was disappointed that his 44 year old wife Alima Iddrisu, whom he had married for thirty years with eleven children, did not leave any supper for him.

Iddrisu got infuriated when his wife during a heated argument, which ensued between them, told him that she did not cook the food because he (iddrisu) did not leave "chop money".

Prosecution further told the court that Iddrisu who could not control his anger pounced on his wife and gave her a severe beating and hit her head against a wall resulting in the sudden collapse and death of Alima.

Inspector Asumani said Iddrisu realizing that his wife was dead, reportedly grabbed a can containing some pesticide and attempted drinking it to commit suicide, but neighbours who had been attracted to the scene seized it from him.

The body of Alima has since been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Morgue awaiting autopsy.
