Farmer remanded for defiling stepdaughter

Cape Coast Sept. 19 GNA- A 32-year-old farmer, Kofi Kakariba, was on Monday remanded into prison custody by a circuit court at Cape Coast for allegedly defiling his 13-year old step daughter.

Kakariba, pleaded not guilty and would reappear on September 28. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Augustine Amonoo, told the court, presided over by Mr. Mustapha Logoh, that Kakariba and the victim's mother live together at Otuam, near Mankessim, whiles the Victim live with a relative at Abeasi, in the Western Region.

He said on July 8 this year, the victim visited her mother at Otuam, but did not meet her, but met Kakariba and his younger brother, and that after the evening's meal, Kakariba asked the victim to sleep on the same bed with his brother whiles he slept on a mat in the room.

Chief Inspector Amonoo alleged that Kakariba later woke the victim and asked her why she had visited her mother and after giving him the reason, Kakariba asked her to join him on the mat, she objected, but he pulled her down on the mat gagged and sexually abused her.

He said the next day, the victim's uncle detected her unusual walking and when questioned, she told him of her ordeal and a report was made to the police.
