Nkwanta(V/R), March 29, GNA - An Nkwanta District Magistrate's Court has fined Kwesi Aregba 18 and Mensah Akatey 21, both farmers 1.5 million cedis each for trespassing in the Kyabobo Wildlife Reserve in the Nkwanta District.
They pleaded guilty to entering the reserve without authority and cutting trees to harvest honey.
Each of them would serve three months imprisonment on each of the two counts to run concurrently in default.
Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Stephen Dabanka told the court presided over by Mr Stanislaw Amanoipo that the accused persons entered the reserve at about 1430 hours on March 3 this year, to harvest wild honey.
He said they were cutting down trees bearing beehives when they were arrested by Wildlife guards and handed over to the police. The prosecutor said after police investigations, they were charged with the offence.
In another development some Kokomba residents at Majimaji near Kpassa in the Nkwanta District have handed over to the Kpassa Police two rifles seized from a team of policemen despatched to the community about a month ago to investigate alleged slaughtering of cattle belonging to some Fulani herdsmen.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mr Sekyere Bruku, Nkwanta District Police Commander told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that no arrests had been made regarding the attack on the policemen.
