A 45-year-old factory hand, Dominic Azumah, is in trouble for defiling his stepdaughter multiple times, resulting in pregnancy.
The accused, Mr Azumah, who is reported to have given the victim (name withheld) a sum of GHc500 to perform an abortion, has been remanded into police custody by the Tema Circuit Court ‘A’.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him and would reappear on later date.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Enyonam Eklu, the prosecutor in the matter, told the court presided over by Lydia Osei-Marfo that the victim is a 14-year-old student who lives at Official Town, a suburb of Ashaiman.
She disclosed that the accused person was married to the victim’s mother who both lived at Valco-Flat in Ashaiman before they finally divorced.
ASP Eklu said somewhere in October 2014, the victim went to pay a visit to her stepfather who lured her into his living room, where he pushed her into the couch and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her.
The prosecution said the victim was found to be pregnant after several months and revealed that her stepfather defiled her on several times after the mother and stepfather went on their separate ways.
The victim was given an amount of GHc500 to terminate the pregnancy when her (the victim) mother confronted the accused.
The case was immediately reported to the Ashaiman DOVVSU where they immediately caused the arrest of the accused who admitted the offence in his cautioned statement to police.
Medical examination revealed that the victim is almost nine months pregnant.
The accused has been remanded to police custody to permit further investigations into the case.
