Father, three kids caught in stealing syndicate

Ahomahomasu (E/R), Aug. 12, GNA - A stealing syndicate formed by a 70-year-old watchman and his three children at Ahomahomasu in the Fanteakwa District of the Eastern Region was busted by the Unit Committee after a three-week surveillance.

The suspects included Malam Haruna, the father, two boys and a daughter aged between six and 14.

The committee retrieved from them stolen personal effects including clothes, shoes, ladies sandals and traveling bags, cooking utensils, plastic bowls, radio cassettes recorders, gallons of palm kernel oil. The Assembly member for Ahomahomasu, Mr Joseph Nartey, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Friday that, following a series of complaints by the local inhabitants about the loss of their personal effects, the Unit Committee detailed its members to keep watch at night for the perpetrators.

According to him, at about 0200 Hrs. of August 11, this year, the three children were spotted carrying some items and when confronted, the took to their heels but were chased and arrested.

Mr Nartey said during interrogation, one of them mentioned their father as the one who was behind their expeditions and even equipped them the torchlight they were using.

The gang were therefore, handed over to the Begoro police for further investigations.

Police Chief Inspector William Kwasi Nkrumah at Begoro who confirmed the story, said the suspects would soon be put before court.
