Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), Oct. 23, GNA - Abena Yeboah in Dormaa-Ahenkro, collapsed twice in police cells at Wamfie and Dormaa-Ahenkro police stations respectively pending the hearing of a case in which she was charged with causing nuisance.
She pleaded not guilty but jumped bail after her first appearance in court compelling the judge Mr Alexander Osei Tutu of the Dormaa Circuit Court to issue a bench warrant for her arrest. Following her arrest, the court ruled that she should be kept in police custody at the Wamfie Female Police Cell to prevent her from any further bail jump.
Wamfie Police, however reported to the court that the suspect collapsed immediately upon entering the cell and was rushed to the Dormaa Presbyterian Hospital at Dormaa-Ahenkro where she was admitted for five days.
The police said when she was discharged from the hospital and transferred to the Dormaa-Ahenkro police station she collapsed again and only regained consciousness at the hospital.
At the next adjourned date, however, Abena changed her plea to guilty and was sentenced upon her own plea to a fine of GH¢ 84.00 or in default spend one month in jail.
Presenting the facts, Mr Bukari Alhassan, a principal environmental health Officer told the court that the suspect kept a drinking bar at Dormaa-Ahenkro but allowed her immediate environment to over-grow with weeds.
He said she also kept a filthy hen-coop which was surrounded by domestic refuse.
Mr Alhassan said the suspect rather flared up when the environmental officers tried to get her to abate the nuisance. In a related development the court has imposed a fine of GH¢ 180.00 on Nana Ama Appiah and GH¢ 84.00 each on Victoria Kisiwaa and Madam Stella all in Dormaa-Ahenkro for committing similar offences. 23 Oct. 10
