A fetish priest at Nsumiah near Doboro in the Eastern Region, Promise Amemato, 32, has been arrested by the Nsawam Police for shooting a couple after robbing them of their goats at Ahiabukope.

The suspect, currently in police custody, allegedly committed the act with one Amando, now at large, on September 20, 2012 around 12:30am.

The victims, who sustained gunshot wounds in the chest, stomach and breast, are currently receiving treatment at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

Narrating the story to DAILY GUIDE, ASP Stephen Addom, the Nsawam District Crime Officer, said the victims were caretakers of the flock which belonged to a chief fire officer.

In early September this year, some thieves broke into the pen and stole a number of goats and sheep, making the caretakers alert during late hours.

On that fateful day, around 12:30am, suspect Promise and Amando, fully armed with a locally-manufactured pistol, went to the couple’s house at Ahiabukope, near Doboro, to steal goats from the pen.

The victims, who were not asleep at that hour, upon hearing the unusual noise of the animals, came out to find out what was amiss.

After flashing their torchlight on the suspects, the victims identified Suspect Promise tying some of the animals with a rope.

To avoid disgrace and his consequent arrest, Suspect Promise attempted to kill the couple by shooting them in the chest, stomach and breast and later bolted with some of the animals.

Some residents who heard the gunshots rushed to the scene only to find the couple lying in a pool of blood gasping for air to breathe.

The two were rushed to the Nsawam Government Hospital for treatment, but the wife (name withheld) was later transferred to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for special medical attention.

Suspect Promise bolted to Lantei-Ma community near Nsawam with some of the stolen goats, but with the help of some individuals, he was apprehended and handed over to the police.

The goats have since been retrieved from the suspect and one is to be used as exhibit against him in court while police continue their search for suspect Amando.
