Fisherman jailed for possessing narcotics

An Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday sentenced one Samuel Adjei, Fisherman, to a two-year imprisonment for possession of narcotic drug without authority. Police Chief Superintendent Duuti Tuaruka, told the court, presided over by Mr Francis Obiri that the witnesses in the case were policemen stationed at Teshie, whiles the convict was a fisherman and lives at Teshie Maami.

He said on February 8, the witnesses, who were on patrol duty, received information to the effect that, the convict was a drug peddler and has some of the stuff in his room at the time of the information.

The prosecution said the informant subsequently led police to the convict’s house at Teshie Maami near the sea, and the convict was arrested.

“A search in his room revealed a blue plastic container containing ninety-two wrappers of substance suspected to be Indian hemps,” he added.

Chief Superintendent Tuaruka said the convict on interrogation told the police that the said substance were given to him by one Mark Koas to sell, but the convict, however, failed to assist police to apprehend the said Mark.
