Five accused persons in the Bolgatanga violence granted bail

Bolgatanga, Feb.03, GNA - A Bolgatanga Circuit Court presided over by Mr Justice Imoro Ziblim, on Friday granted bail to five out of the six accused persons in connection with communal violence between Bukere and Soe both suburbs within Bolgatanga Municipality last month. Each accused person was granted 20 million cedis bail with a surety to be justified and would re-appear on March 3.

They pleaded not guilty to causing unlawful damage to property and murdering a 15-year-old girl.

The accused persons are Philip Azangolo, a houseboy, Nsobila Alantara, store assistant, Ben Bopom, and Osman Azaare, both drivers and Rockson Ame-Etigo, a trader.

Police Corporal Evans Ayingorah Abolga, the sixth accused person was refused bail by the Court.

It would be recalled that on January 15, this year, communal violence erupted between the youth of Bukere and Soe in the Upper East Region when they were playing cards. During the violence a 15-year-old girl died while nine people received injuries and properties destroyed.
