Five illegal miners remanded in custody at Koforidua

The Koforidua Circuit Court presided over by Mercy Addai Kotei has remanded into Police custody five persons in the Eastern Region for engaging in illegal mining.

The accused persons are Awudu Annia 41, Isahaku Yakubu 60, Isaac Yaw Yeboah 41, Mustapha Seidu 44 and Abubakari Adam 40.

On the 26th of December 2017 the accused persons were caught at Pillar 32 and Pillar 33 stretch of the Atiwa Forest Reserve at Kubreso near Akanteng engaged in illegal mining using pick axe, shovels and head pans.

The five pleaded guilty and have been remanded into Police custody to reappear on 12th January 2018 as investigations continue.
