Sekondi, May 5, GNA - The remaining five jail breakers at the Sekondi Central Prison who are still at large, are believed to be hiding in the forest at Badumkom near Sekondi, Alhaji Hamidu Mahama, Western Regional Police Commander, said on Monday.

Speaking to the press at Sekondi, he urged residents in the farming community and its surrounding communities to be on the look out for suspicious persons, and report them to the nearest Police Station for identification.

The jail breakers are all convicted armed robbers and those on the run included Wadrago Adama, a Burkinabe, Adama Iddrisu, a Ghanaian and Mohammed Issah, a Malian who are serving 50 year sentences for robbery, as well as Raphael Avo Buoro, a Nigerian, and Yaw Mensah Sampson alias Olabode, a Ghanaian, who are serving 40 years and 45 years imprisonment respectively for the same offence.

Alhaji Mahama said 10 convicted armed robbers made up of five Ghanaians and five foreigners serving high sentences were involved in the jail break. He said two convicts, Gariba Amadu, a Beninoi serving a 50 year imprisonment for robbery, and Kwaku Abeiku, a Ghanaian, who sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for attempting a crime, were recaptured when the vehicle the 10 convicts were using to run away collided with a taxi near the Ketan Estates on the day of the jail break.

Alhaji Mahama said three others were recaptured on May 3 at Beposo. They are Mohammed Gariba, a Nigerian, serving a 60 year sentence and Raphael Larweh, and Ebenezer Okorley Tetteh alias Rasta, both Ghanaians serving 40 years jail term each.

He said five out of the 10 rifles stolen from the armoury of the Sekondi Central Prison have been recovered. 5 May 10
