Five persons remanded for possessing wee

An Accra Circuit Court on Thursday remanded five persons for allegedly possessing narcotic drugs without authority.

They are Emmanuel Adonkor, Labourer, Paul Mensah, Machine Operator, Ishmael Quaye, Video Editor, Thomas Nkansah, Painter and Addo Kuffour, Unemployed.

They all pleaded not guilty and would re-appear on July 2. Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Duuti Tauraka, told the court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri that on June 16, at about 0500 hours, the Odorkor District Police Command led by Superintendent Abraham Acquaye assisted by the District Crime Officer conducted a special exercise to track down drug peddlers and users.

He said in the course of the operation, Adonkor and Mensah were arrested at Odorkor Official Town cutting and wrapping quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp in a silver tray.

Quaye and Nkansah were also arrested in a nearby kiosk with a polythene bag containing quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

The prosecution said the operation was extended to Anyaa Kokompe, a suburb of Accra, where Kuffour was arrested with a black bag containing a parcel of compressed dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp After a careful investigation, they were charged with the offence.
