Former employee of ECOBANK before court for allegedly stealing

Takoradi, June 27, GNA - Prosper Kwame Amedior, a 29-year-old former employee of Takoradi Harbour branch of ECOBANK on Friday, appeared before a Takoradi Circuit court for allegedly stealing 42,970 Ghana Cedis belonging to the bank.

His plea was not taken and remanded to re-appear on July 15. Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Albert Deletsa, said on May 22, this year, the accused was assigned to cash mobilisation duties in Takoradi Township. He said in the course of his duties, the accused visited some customers of the bank and collected various sums of money to deposit in their accounts. ASP Deletsa said the accused kept part of the customers money and paid the rest into their accounts. He said the accused failed to report for work the following day and when his co-workers went to his house they found that he had vacated the place.

ASP Deletsa said management of the bank immediately conducted an audit of his transaction the previous day and was detected that he failed to deposit 38,450 Ghana cedis of the amount given to him by "V" Mobile and 4,520 Ghana cedis from other customers. He said management made a report to the Police and on June 24 this year, the accused was arrested at his hideout at Ashiaman and admitted the offence in his caution statement to the Police. The prosecution said during investigation, it was realised that the accused used the money to purchase three taxis.
