Four armed robbers and a woman accomplice remanded

Cape Coast, Oct. 18, GNA - Four out of five armed robbers, who allegedly attacked a trader, inflicted cutlass wounds on five tenants in a house at Twifo-Praso and made off with monies totalling 13.3 million cedis and other items, last Wednesday, were on Monday remanded into prison custody by a circuit court at Cape Coast.

They are Agbelanyo Kwasi, alias 'Red', Nyimana Ntibeeh, Benjamin Coffie, alias Sammy and Adam Iddrisu all residents of Tabora, in Accra. Their fifth accomplice, one Awudu Abogyese, also a resident of Tabora, is on the run.

In the dock with them, and also remanded in custody, was Comfort Quansah, alias Ama Kwaah, a trader at Twifo-Praso, who allegedly connived with the robbers to rob the victim.

Their pleas were not taken and are to re-appear on Monday, November 1.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Henry Tanor told the court presided over by Mr Mustapha Logoh, that Comfort Quansah is a trader at Twifo Praso and a friend to Agbelanyo, who received stolen goods from Kwasi and the other four men, after they carried out a robbery.

He alleged that, sometime in July this year, Quansah visited Agbelanyo and his group in Accra, to buy stolen items from them and in the process, tipped them off that, one Madam Felicia Boateng is a prominent trader at Twifo-Praso, and that they could rob her of several amounts of money.

She then proceeded to give them directions to Madam Boateng's house and in September this year, Agbelanyo travelled from Accra to Twifo-Praso, to 'survey' the area where Madam Boateng lives.

He further alleged that, the five robbers, armed with locally manufactured pistols and cutlasses, came down from Accra last Wednesday, laid ambush and attacked Madam Boateng's house at about 0100 hours.

They fired warning shots and broke into the room of one Madam Yaa Badu, a 90-year-old woman, who also lives in Madam Boateng's house, subjected her to severe torture, ransacked her room and made off with a quantity of refined gold and an amount of one million.

Mr Tanor said the robbers then broke into the room of one Mr Frank Amadi, inflicted several cutlass wounds on him and his wife, destroyed their television sets and other electronic gadgets in the room and robbed them of three million cedis.

They then broke into the room of their main target, Madam Felicia Boateng and her husband, also attacked and inflicted several cutlass wounds on them and robbed them of 9,260,000 cedis.

Chief Inspector Tanor said a report was made to the police and messages were dispatched to various community leaders, which consequently led to the arrest of four of the robbers, while Abogyese managed to escape.

During interrogation, Agbelanyo told the police that Quansah recruited them to rob the victims. An amount of 3,570,00 cedis was found on them, Chief Inspector Tanor added.
