Four remanded for smoking hemp

Assin-Foso (C/R), Aug 7, GNA - Four men who were allegedly arrested smoking dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, were on Monday remanded by a district magistrate's court at Assin-Foso. The plea of Enoch Asare, Yaw Amakyi, Sulle Issaka and Kojo Donkor all resident in the town, were not taken and would be re-arraigned on Friday September 8.

Prosecuting ASP Akwasi Asafo-Agyei told the court presided over by Mr Joseph Blay that on July 28, this year, following a tip off, the police managed to arrest Asare when he and a group were found smoking leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

The prosecution said Amakyi, Issaka and Donkor, were later arrested when Asare mentioned their names to the police, and that two other members of the group, Kwame Nyame and Mohamadu, were still at large. In another development, the court, fined Samuel Yanney, taxi driver, also from Assin-Foso 400,000 cedis for parking at an unauthorized place.

Yanney, who pleaded guilty, will go to jail for two months in default.

The court, also fined Samuel Antwi a resident of the town, 200,000 cedis for riding a bicycle in the night without a light and a bell. Antwi who pleaded guilty will go to prison for two months in default.
