Four suspected members of a violent criminal gang linked to series of robbery attacks in parts of the Ashanti Region have been arrested and detained by the police.
Their names were given as Abraham Kwaku Sarpong, alias, “Asuo”, the leader, Ibrahim Abass, Matthew Gyedu, alias “Zion” and Philip Obeng.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kwaku Osei Ampofo-Duku, the Deputy Regional Commander, told journalists that they were apprehended at different places.
The police, he said, had launched a massive manhunt for three of their accomplices – Diallo, Toaghtoagh and Action.
He labeled the gang as dangerous said they always carried AK-47 assault rifles and he was convinced that four AK-47 rifles retrieved from Ahenema-Kokobeng and Ejisu by the police belonged to them.
They had on August 08, last year, attacked a gold dealer, Mr. Akwasi Manu, in Manso-Abore in the Amansie West District, at about 1930 hours.
They shot one man, Mr. Prince Morris Manu in the waist, during the robbery and seized from Mr. Manu gold, pump action gun, a pistol, cash of GH?15,000.00 and fled.
ACP Ampofo-Duku said the gang was also behind robberies in Denchemuoso, Aputuogya and Ahenma-Kokoben.
Those being held by the police, had already confessed to carrying out the attacks, he added.
The Deputy Regional Commander appealed to the public to provide the police with vital leads to arrest those on the run.
