Two people ran into trouble with the law for looting a grave at the Muslims Cemetery in Atebubu in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The suspects—Awal Amidu, 19, and Tofik Mohammed, 27—were on Sunday, January 8, 2017 arrested by the Atebubu police.

Atebubu Police Commander, Superintendent Joseph Atsu Dzinaku, in an interview with Today, said the incident took place on January 8, 2017.

According to the police commander, the watchman at the Atebubu Muslim Cemetery upon seeing the suspects fired shots at them, but they fled and left behind their bicycle.

He said the police used the bicycle to identify the owner who admitted that he gave it to one of the suspects, Awal Amidu.

Superintendent Atsu Dzinaku went on to say that when Awal Amidu was confronted, he admitted having gone to the cemetery with Tofik Mohammed to loot a grave.

He said a search was subsequently conducted in Tofik Mohammed’s room, “where human parts in a sack including a skull were found.”

The two suspects, Superintendent Atsu Dzinaku noted, were then arraigned before the Atebubu Magistrate Court, following which they were remanded in police custody.
