Bibiani (W/R), Sept 5, GNA - Nana Wereko Apem II, Gyaasehene of Sefwi-Awiam has appeared before the Bibiani Circuit Court allegedly for dishonestly receiving stolen tractor parts valued GH=A22,500 (25 million cedis).

In the dock with Nana Apem were Bismark Yaw Danso, Godwin Kwabena Asante and Nicholas Konaagye, all on the charge of stealing the parts. Nana Apem, who pleaded not guilty, was granted bail in the sum of GH=A23,000 (30 million cedis). The other three also pleaded not guilty and were remanded in prison custody until September 11. Giving the facts of the case, Detective Police Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court, presided over by Mr Kwaku Aboagye, that the complainant, Joseph Asante, was a timber merchant who owned four tractors.

He said Asante and Danso were working with the complainant. The prosecution said in March this year, the complainant parked one of his tractors at Sefwi-Sawora and travelled to Kumasi. Inspector Amponsah said on August 15, the complainant returned only to detect that some parts of the tractor had been stolen. The prosecution said a tip-off led to the arrest of Asante and Danso, who mentioned Konaagye, as an accomplice. During interrogation they mentioned Nana Apem as the person who bought the parts and fixed them into his broken tractor.
