Half Assini Police searching for hunter

The Half-Assini Police in Western Region are searching for a hunter from Adusuazo near Half-Assini, whose name was only given as Kpobi for shooting a farmer and abandoning him in the bush.

Superintendent John Furguson Dzineku, the Jomoro District Police Commander, made this known to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Half-Assini.

He said the victim, Benjamin Forbah, 40, a charcoal burner was returning home on Monday December 28 around 2000hrs after inspecting some wood to be turned into charcoal.

Superintendent Dzineku said the victim, who spoke to Police on his Hospital bed side at the Eikwe Catholic hospital, said on his way home, he saw a light about 30 meters coming towards him from the opposite direction.

He said the victim suspecting the bearer of the light to be a hunter, whistled to signify his presence at the place as practiced by hunters in the area.

Superintendent Dzineku said the individual never responded and was still coming towards him so he shouted in a loud voice "I am here" but hunter ignored his call and shot at him.

He said when the victim screamed "You have killed me", the hunter, Mr Kpobi went to him and decided to carry him on his back to town.

Superintendent Dzineku said after seeing the extent of the injury, Kpobi abandoned the victim him to his fate in the bush and bolted.

Superintendent Dzineku said Mr Forbah managed to call his work mate, one Mr Seidu Bakari, on his phone and he went for him with a motor bike and sent him to the Half-Assini Government Hospital for treatment.

He said due to the seriousness of the case, the victim was given first aid and referred to Eikwe Mission Hospital where he was responding to treatment.

The District Police Commander said the victim has also undergone an operation where three pellets were removed from his lower abdomen.

Superintendent Dzineku appealed to the general public for any information that could lead to the arrest of Mr Kpobi.
