The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) has deployed a special reinforcement team alongside armoured vehicles to Gushegu and Karaga in the Northern Region to enhance security following recent clashes in the area.
According to the police, the deployment aims to restore calm and prevent further escalation of tensions in the affected communities.
On April 15, 2026, the Ghana Police Service shared the announcement in a series of posts on its official X page.
“The Inspector-General of Police has deployed a special team of operational officers and armoured vehicles to Gushegu and Karaga to beef up security following recent clashes in the towns,” the Service said.

The reinforcement team is made up of operational officers who will work closely with the Northern Regional Police Command to intensify patrols and improve security visibility across the affected areas.
“The team will work with officers of the Northern Regional Police Command to intensify patrols and enhance security in the towns and surrounding communities,” the police added.
The move comes amid growing concerns over safety in the two towns following reported disturbances, with the police assuring residents of continued protection and swift response to any further incidents.
